Day 3 in Greece - 2024
Check Out and Move On
I wake up, frustrated. It's check out day for the hotel. VRBO had booked me a three-day stay in this hotel while their rebooking team was supposed to be booking a new VRBO for me. Well, it's now time for me to check out, and I have no new place to go. I call the VRBO rebooking team for what feels like the umpteenth time, and demand a refund. They comply. I find an apartment on Booking.com and book that. I immediately get messages from the owner of the property with the door code and all the information I need. Perfection.
I check out of Thess Residences and walk to the apartment since it's only 1 kilometer away (0.62 miles). I pass by two historical sites, occasionally stopping on a sunny bench to read Lord of the Rings since I have a few hours between checking out of the hotel and checking in to the Booking apartment.
The apartment is ready around 13:00 and that's when I show up. I get inside and start to unpack. I go to a nearby grocery store and buy some food only to discover there are zero cooking pots, pans, or utensils in the apartment. I call the property owner who tells me that the kitchen isn't actually supposed to be used. What?! I have to argue with him to allow me to cook in the apartment. I only booked this apartment because it has a full kitchen and the listing stated the kitchen is for use. I'm staying for weeks, I need to be able to cook food. I bought groceries already, and the food will go bad if I cannot cook it. He concedes and tells me that his cleaning lady will drop off a cooking pot and a spatula tomorrow. Great. That's all I need, honestly. For today, I use the broiler pan in the oven to make myself chicken.
Jeremy Flies Out
Jeremy calls Rebecca in the evening to let her know that he can't wait to be in Greece with her. He finishes his packing whilst on the phone, and then hangs up so that he can drive our dogs over to his parent's place. Our friend is watching our cat, and our siblings will check in on the bunnies. The plan is in place. Jeremy's dad drives him to the airport, and he has to rush a bit to get to his first flight from Denver to Washington D.C.. He calls me in D.C. to check in, and then I go to sleep as he boards his flight for Istanbul.
