Day 6 in Greece - 2024

Relaxing in Thessaloniki

We wake up and walk down the street to a place called Crepe (κρέπα) for breakfast. We each get a pastry that has turkey and cheese inside of it, and we each get cappuccinos. Per our usual preferences, Jeremy's is freddo, and mine is hot.

We walk back up to the apartment to finish packing for our trip this evening, and then we play video games and table-top games to pass the time.

A couple enjoying pastries together while taking selfies in a car.

Flying to Kriti

Our taxi picks us up at 17:00 and drives us to Thessaloniki's airport. We board our Aegean flight to the island of Crete, or Κρήτη "Kriti", and it's the most chaotic boarding we've ever had in our lives. We board the plane from the tarmac, but they have two doors open for boarding - one door at the front, and one door at the back. Some people boarded from the front door but sat in the back, and some people boarded from the back door and sat in the front. The aisle was impossible to pass through, and there was a lot of walking forwards and backwards until we could get to a row with two seats available for us to sit next to each other. Uff da.

We are given cookies that resemble Oreos and bottled water on the flight after we take off. Jeremy works on Sudoku puzzles, and I write in my journal.

Kriti

We land on the island of Kriti and go to meet our car rental contact from Voyager. The island is so large that we wanted to rent a car to get to see more places. The man leads us to the car, has us load our luggage into it, and then has us follow him into a van to sign the paperwork. I have never felt so strongly that my belongings would be stolen and that I would be kidnapped in my entire life. I sat with half of my body out of the van so that they couldn't close the door on me, and Jeremy kept an eye on the car with our stuff in it. It all ended up being just fine - but could the company act more suspicious?

I drive the rental car to the Palmero Hotel in Hersonissos with Jeremy giving me directions. We check into our room, have dinner in the hotel's restaurant, and then go to sleep.
