Furry Scurry 2026
Jeremy, Zelda, the three dogs, and I arrive at Wash Park around 08:15. Sequoia and Willow are acting rambunctious, which is not a great start. Aspen is behaving perfectly, so I'm walking her along with pushing Zelda in the stroller. Jeremy goes and finds a grassy area to hold onto Willow and Sequoia and let them chill out. It's much needed. I decided to bring my camera, but I'm realizing it's nearly impossible to take pictures whilst pushing a stroller and walking a dog. My hands are full!
I do manage to snap a picture of Jeremy with Sequoia and Willow. I'm trying out a lens for the first time - and I'm not sure if I like it. It has soft focus and really blurs the edges. I can see using it for special projects, but I don't think it's an everyday lens.
Zelda, Aspen, and I go check out some of the vendors in the "Flealess Market" (how cute is that). We get some free dog treats, a few free toys, and a free bandana. We returned to Jeremy, Sequoia, and Willow, and I snapped a picture of her sitting all perfect.
We stayed off to the side as the Flealess Market got busier by the minute. The girls had some other dogs come up and say hi, and for the most part, they did really well. A family nearby was giving their dogs CBD treats, but when one dog didn't want to eat theirs, they offered it to our dogs. Jeremy said yes, they tossed it over, and Sequoia gobbled it up. She definitely was more mellow a few minutes later.
Several loud voices over a speaker system announce that it's time to start the Furry Scurry. This is my least favorite part. The crowd is so thick at the start line, and the announcers honestly annoy me every year. They announce top-fundraisers, which is fine, but then they start pointing out every single dog they find cute in the crowd, and it just sounds like fake enthusiasm to me. I'm sure it's just a me problem.
We go stand near the starting line while the event begins, but we don't join the crowd until it thins out a bit. We make it around the lake, and are about halfway done with the race when we step off the track and onto the grass to check Zelda's diaper, get some water, see if the dogs want water (they didn't), and take a few pictures.
We got to the end, and I handed the stroller and Aspen off to Jeremy so I could take a picture of them crossing the finish line.
We cross the finish line and check out the rest of the flealess market that we didn't get to before we started the 2+ mile walk. There are so many people, but we manage to get a few more goodies for the dogs before heading out. It was another successful Furry Scurry!
