Day 1 in North Carolina - 2025

Work Day

I've been in North Carolina for work this whole week, but today is the last day of work for me before a long weekend off with the family. I wake up at 06:30, pack up the few items still left to pack up before I check out of Aloft. I sling my camera bag over my shoulder, grab the handle of my large suitcase as well as my laptop case, and leave my room.

I take the elevator down to the main floor, grab breakfast, and check out of the hotel. I sit at a table to eat, and answer emails while waiting for my coworkers to join me. They soon do, and we shuttle over to headquarters. We have a final wrap up meeting, and then everyone else leaves for the airport. I stay in the lobby of the office building, waiting for Jeremy and Zelda to come pick me up with the rental car. They just flew in today from Colorado.

Getting Settled

The rental car pulls up, and I wheel and carry my luggage out to the car. I load it all into the trunk, hop in the backseat, and give Zelda several kisses all over her cute, adorable face. Gosh, how I've missed her. I get out, hop into the passenger seat, and give Jeremy several kisses on his cute, adorable face too. I've missed both of them so much. We drive over to Fairfield Inn where we will be staying, and check into our room.

We drop our luggage off into the room, and then go to Wayback Burgers for a late lunch/early dinner. We return to our hotel room so that I can change clothes, because I was so hungry I didn't want to before lunch, and then we head to downtown Raleigh.

Raleigh

We drive to the Historic City Market, but unfortunately, a lot of the storefronts are empty or closed. We do find a coffee shop named Sir Walter's and go inside. Jeremy orders an iced dreamsicle latte, and I get a vanilla sugar-free cappuccino. Both of our drinks are yummy. We like the decor of the place as well, and admire the paintings on the walls.

We continue our walk around downtown, strolling through Moore Square. We return to the car and drive over to Boylen Bridge to look at the Raleigh skyline during sunset. The bridge goes over railroad tracks, and a freight train comes rolling in under us. Zelda points and smiles multiple times - she thinks the train is great! The train belongs to Norfolk Southern Railway.

We drive around a bit, mostly through Dix Park, before calling it a night and returning to the hotel. Jeremiah and I both take showers while Zelda plays percussion for us on the toilet lid, and then we all settle in for sleep.
