Day 14 in Greece - 2023

Good Morning


Jeremiah and I wake up around 08:30 and make cheesy scrambled eggs for breakfast. We sit on the balcony, playing cribbage while we eat breakfast, enjoying the breeze and the sunshine. We then shower and get ready. for the day, unsure of what to do.


After some discussion, we decide we will do the "Midwest Thing" and just drive around to see what we discover.

Road Trip


We start off on the road that goes along the waterfront, P. Kountouriotou. This road leads us out of Peraia, and we enter a town called Neoi Epivates. We drive through, also making our way around Nea Kerasia and Emvolo.


We stop a few times, so that I can take photographs of animals, of a vineyard, and other sites.

Nea Michaniona


We drive into a town called Nea Michaniona (Νέα Μηχανιώνα). We park the car near the town center and walk around. There's a huge, beautiful church called the Holy Church of Panagia Phaneromeni. It is seriously a beautiful piece of architecture. I take photographs of it, and we walk up and down the streets near the city center. There are a lot of shops, and we go into a few, buying some souvenirs.


We leave city center and are on the road again, finding ourselves outside of the main area of town. We pass by a small church, and it looks like a wedding is happening there. We drive by, make our way up the hill, and then suddenly the road ends. Our rental car goes air born for a moment. The moment seemed to last several minutes, with my hand grabbing the "oh shit" handle, and Jeremy saying "Oh, shit!" out loud. The car lands in sand, Jeremy pressing on the brakes. We look at each other in shock and then start laughing. What on Earth?! There was no sign saying the road was going to end. That was scary, yet fun. There's a sandy roadway here, so we decide to follow it for a while, ending up on a beach. We exit the vehicle, and thankfully it doesn't look like any damage was done to the front bumper, and walk the beach a bit. A few stray cats come up to say hello before we get back in the car to leave. We make our way carefully back up onto the paved road, and drive back to Peraia.

Peraia


We drive back to the VRBO, going inside for a quick breather, before walking down the boardwalk to a place called Bobos. We have lunch at Bobos - Jeremy orders a pork sandwich, and I have a chicken gyro. We also share a souvlaki box.


We stop at a few souvenir shops after lunch, buying a few items, and then returning to the apartment. We watch Angels and Demons, play Pokémon Go, watch Friends, and just relax for the evening. Dinner is delicious - we make pasta, chicken, potatoes and spinach. It's nice to just cuddle and relax after the adventurous day.
