Texas + New Mexico - Day 4
Breakfast
Jeremy's alarm is set for 08:00, but the three of us wake up on our own at 07:30. We get dressed, head downstairs, and we make a mutual decision as a group to go to the beach today. Leigh makes us scrambled eggs with hash browns, and then we load up the car to make the two hour drive to Whitecap Beach in Corpus Christi.
Whitecap Beach
We stop at a gas station to get a state park pass for Leigh and Mason. This allows us to access the beach, and it's good for the whole year. Then we drive out to the beach, and actually drive onto the beach.
It's windy when we arrive, but I go into the water while Jeremy gets Zelda into her swimsuit. Zelda loves the water, and we play in it for quite a while. She and I return to shore, and I sit with her in the sand where the water caresses the sand. Mason and Leigh are in and out of the water. Mason and Jeremy soon join Zelda and I, and Leigh takes cover from the sun under the canopy we brought with us.
Zelda reaches for her dad, and I retreat further into the sand to photograph the birds.
We all return to the water, and Zelda starts to get snuggly. I take her back to shore and cuddle with her for a bit in one of the camping chairs we brought with as well. She lays her head on my shoulder and we sit this way for a while. She is looking at me with her beautiful eyes that reflect the sky and murmuring "Mama" over and over. She asks me to say her affirmations, and I do - multiple times.
She and I join her grandmother under he canopy and are soon joined by the men. We all play with the toys we brought along for Zelda. I work on building a fortress around her while she fills and empties containers using the sand.
We all de-sand ourselves as best as we can before getting back into the car and driving back to Leigh and Mason's house. We eat leftovers for dinner, and then Jeremiah and I step out to go get coffee. We return to the house, relax, and eventually go to bed.
